As one of mid-Michigan’s first elementary schools to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, Post Oak Academy exposes students to an international environment, including second-language instruction in Chinese using a 50/50 immersion design.

Students learn to read, write and speak in both English and Chinese throughout their school career, becoming educated as global citizens, more prepared for the world that awaits them.

What is International Baccalaureate?

The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB-PYP) - designed for students ages 3 to 12 - is an international program that focuses on the development of the whole child from an academic, social, physical, spiritual, emotional and cultural standpoint.

Core subjects are taught within a framework of ‘global significance’ to guide the learning process in a thematically organized curriculum that challenge students to think globally and ponder how they and others interact with and affect the world around them.

Students are encouraged to constantly inquire, investigate, and identify connections between subjects. The skills gained are designed to produce students who make informed choices, reflect on situations, and take responsible actions that will be helpful to themselves and others around them. Students continue the IB programme by entering Eastern High School.
